The Mother-in-Law House Restaurant

Built in 1866 by Francis X. Krammer for his wife and his mother-in-law; the building was the first duplex built west of the Mississippi River. The house was divided down the middle, one half for Krammer and his wife, and the other half for his mother-in-law. Located in historic St. Charles, Missouri, it is one of the area's many landmarks. The entire building is now the home of the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant. Owned and operated by Donna Hafer since 1981; the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant specializes in fine dinning at reasonable rates in an atmosphere of Victorian elegance. In the dinning room, you will find authentic oil lamps, antique clocks, oil painting by local artist, antique candelabra, and a six foot antique mirror all blended into a beautiful Victorian decor. The wonderful surroundings are not the best part of your dinning experience at the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant. The award winning fare is second to none. For lunch, enjoy hand made fresh hamburgers, specialty salads, hot grilled sandwiches, and home-made soups. For dinner, treat yourself to a very special meal. Start with a freshly made appetizer or a bowl of French onion soup. Then move on to the salad bar. Not just some lettuce and a few toppings; but a unique collection of fresh salads made from old family recipes. But be sure to leave room for more. The entrees are a variety of French and American delights that are sure to please. Choose from hand cut steaks, stuffed chicken breasts, succulent seafood, or ask your friendly server about the nightly specials. Included with each meal is your choice of a baked potato or Mother-in-Law rice and the "veggie" of the day. After lunch or dinner, the crowning touch to the meal is a slice of the New Mother-in-Law House Restaurant's world renown coconut cream pie and the best cup of coffee in town. Also available below the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant is the Cider Cellar. This banquet room seats up to one hundred people in a old-fashion rural atmosphere; you can even sit under an apple tree. The same wonderful repasts that are available in the dinning room can be included in your banquet. Also available are buffet style meals, cocktail parties, receptions, and business meetings. Almost any need of a small to medium sized group can be accommodated. Please come see us soon at the Mother-in-Law House Restaurant. We are waiting to share your favorite restaurant with you.
